Paxos - Antipaxos
"ONE OF THE
TOP TWENTY GREATEST ESCAPES IN THE WORLD"
Paxos
covers an area of some 19 square kilometers and is one of a cluster of picturesque small islands set in the Ionian Sea. Paxos
has no airport, can only be reached by boat and therefore, has been able to protect itself from the strain of modern tourism.
Paxos is an island of endless olive groves and Anti Paxos is one large vineyard. The eastern coastlines of the islands are
gentle compared to the west coasts which are bold and abrupt, with caves, arches and shear cliffs. The capital of Paxos is
Gaios a picturesque village built around a port which is protected by two small islands Agios Nikolas and Panagia. On the
Northern side is the village of Lakka and on the east side is the very charming village of Loggos. You will find the place
is still unhurried, very relaxing with genuine friendly Greek hospitality at its best. Paxos has a permanent population of
approximately 2,300 inhabitants.
.
The 3 Big Islands, Ericousa, Othoni, Mathraki.
These are the three Diapontian Islands off the north west of Corfu and are completely undeveloped.
They boast clean sparkling water, caves and sandy beaches. Few taverns are offering fresh fish and Greek specialties.
We cruise along the north coast of Corfu past the village of Sidari, before anchoring
at Ericousa and the golden beach. Next stop is the biggest Island off them all, Othoni Island, with the Calypso Cave, sending
us years back in the Greek mythology. The last island is Mathraki, with a famous tavern and sandy beach.
On the way back we pass the remarkable sandstone cliffs of Cape Drastis and the famous Canal D´Amour with stops along the way for swimming.
